Апстракт
Алис Вокер се од почетка свог стваралачког опуса трудила да деконструише стереотипе о Афроамериканкама које је створила доминантна бела заједница. Чела Сандовал сматра да стереотипи нису само предрасуде појединаца, већ део већих процеса који одржавају неједнакост у друштву. Она истиче да маргинализоване заједнице развијају креативне и стратешке облике отпора. Чланак износи гледиште да Вокер не замењује само негативне стереотипе о Афроамериканкама позитивним. Напротив, она огољује стереотипе као идеолошки механизам који подржава расну, родну и класну доминацију. Вокер истражује развој диференцијалне свести Афроамериканки помоћу које оне преиспитују, деконструишу и на крају трансформишу ове представе.
